Loisaba wilderness
In Northern Kenya, there is a 150 square kilometre private
wildlife conservancy situated on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau, 70 kilometres
from Mount Kenya. The Laikipia Plateau borders the 80,000 square kilometre
Northern Frontier District.
Peter and Julianna and their wonderful team of Samburu
and Maasai guides have created a very special place in Loisaba.
Constructed from stone, cedar and thatch, the lodge is perched high on the
edge of the plateau looking south towards Mount Kenya.

Each room has large French window that open onto a private
deck off the cantilevered off the escarpment. The views are legendary, and
a thousand feet below a waterhole draws continuous wildlife. All the furniture
in the lodge is handmade at Loisaba. The lodge has a swimming pool and tennis
court. From the lodge, you may walk with a Maasai guide and take game drives
or horse-rides on the concession.
A new addition is the STAR BEDS,
the most original, romantic and exhilarating of places in Africa - your own
high wooden platform, alone under a sky which stretches to infinity. To many
this is the highlight of their visit to Kenya, a unique and most memorable
experience.

The Star Beds are unique to Loisaba and are located in
one of the eastern valleys overlooking a large water area. Each Star Bed
is different and comprises a raised, handcrafted wooden platform sculpted
high into a kopje of rocks and semi-covered with a thatched roof. Home made
'Mukokoteni' beds can either be wheeled out onto the semi-covered area for
the night under the stars, or left under the shelter of the roof.
Guests are guided and hosted by a team of traditional
Samburu and Laikipiak Masai warriors. Food is prepared in traditional camp
style over a fire at the open walled, central mess area. Loisaba's richness
as a wildlife area is not only being enjoyed by their guests but is receiving
increasing attention from international research institutions.
