Golf in Kenya - the country has 38 golf courses of which 12 are 18-hole and 10 are championship courses. Most have a pro-shop and caddies (no golf carts).

Many are at an altitude of over 1500m, adding about 10% to the length of shots.

Golf is very active in Kenya - represented by the relatively large number of courses for a country which took up the cause only recently.

For the itinerant visitor this is excellent news - the courses are mainly uncrowded, especially so during the week. Entrance and green fees are low in comparison with other countries - but the standard of the courses and the club houses is high.

Perhaps the most appealing feature of golf in Kenya is the variety.

There are courses near the ocean, adjacent to Kenya's white beaches amongst palm trees. There are courses on high elevation tea estates. There are courses in the Great Rft Valley - and as to be expected in Africa - the sense of distance and views are panoramic from nearly all.

To be able to golf in Kenya in addition to safari or the more adventurous activities like diving, must be unique.
